How to Increase your VMware Hard Disk

Preface:

I had an existing VMware image ofWindows Server 2003 installed in VMware 6. I made the hard disk around 8 GB in size. Now I need to increase the size of the VMware hard disk?

Solution:

Increasing your VMware hard disk

  • Navigate to your VMWare folder and issue the following command from the command prompt, passing -x to increase the size followed by the new size (e.g. 20Gb), followed by the path to the vmdk file you want to resize.

    • C:Program FilesVMwareVMware Workstationvmware-vdiskmanager -x 20Gb vmdiskfile.vmdk
